A self-taught artist with a passion for creating unique and inspiring art pieces. His love for art began young and grew into his life’s passion and pursuit. His distinctive style and unique treatment of his subjects, all of which are pencil, pen, and ink, or pen and ink and watercolor, make a Montoya instantly recognizable. His subjects included children, animals, architecture, cowboys, and western scenes. However, during the last decade, he became internationally known for his Native American portraits. Montoya has drawn inspiration from nature, family, his environment, and his personal relationships with people he’s encountered. His art evokes emotion while also telling a story to his viewers.
